MARYELLEN SULLIVAN

Kadeidoscope Abstraction

ARTIST STATEMENT:

As I was busy wrapping some household items to donate to a local church, I suddenly noticed something extraordinary.  The  crystal stopper for a wine decanter was lying on its side on my desk on a piece of white paper that was splattered with paint; remnants of prior work.  As the sun shone through the glass stopper, beautiful kaleidoscopic designs emerged from the stray lines of paint.  As I moved the stopper slowly over the surface, I became entranced by the myriad patterns and shapes that emerged.  Here, I share some of those images with you.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

After retiring from law practice, Maryellen started to pursue her interest in art.  She is particularly drawn to both abstract painting and abstract photography.  Maryellen lives in Stowe with her husband, Bob, and their two dogs, Toby and Stanley.
